The West Virginia State Police is required to maintain the sex offender registry under West Virginia code. The information that is provide is in the interest of public safety and to allow families and individuals to take appropriate actions in protecting themselves and their children. The information is not assessed by the likelihood of an offender’s risk for reoffense. It is also as accurate as possible, considering many offenders may be absconded and wanted for not registering.
